Acts 8:12 — “But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.”


Acts 18:8 — “And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized.”


The first act of obedience for every believer is to declare his faith in Jesus Christ by being baptized. Baptism does not save or help save anyone. It is the means by which we publicly identify with Christ. The consistent teaching of the Word of God is that baptism follows salvation.

The word “baptize” means to “immerse.” Baptism is the immersion of a believer in water. (Sprinkling or pouring with water is not immersion, and therefore is not scriptural baptism.)

The New Testament teaches that baptism is the immersion of a believer in water, publicly implemented by a Bible‐believing New Testament (Baptist) church. Baptism adds the believer to the church, which is the Lord’s appointed society to preach His Gospel throughout the world.
